What to expect when transferring your site live

The day your site goes live is very exciting! Usually, this process is quick with little to no downtime. However, unknown circumstances can sometimes cause this process to take longer. Different variables include, each unique host providing a different quality of service, PHP level, operational status of your old/current live site, propagation time, or other unknowns.

In most cases transferring your site live takes about 1-3 hours. But in some cases, this process can take up to 3 days. While our aim is a smooth transition, your site may experience downtime during this process.

During your launch time frame, we ask that you (or a singular primary contact from your business) remain available for quick communication from our team.

Also, during your launch time frame, please stay out of your current website. Please make sure that everyone with access to your website knows not to log in until your new site is live, and we have communicated that your site launch is complete.

If your new or updated site is being transferred to hosting other than Managed Hosting by Jolly Creative Agency, in partnership with Flywheel, then we strongly recommend you make a full backup of your old/current site stored on your host’s server, prior to your launch date.

Requirements:

  • We must have full access to hosting, FTPS, and DNS (if requested) prior to your launch day
  • Access to you during your launch time frame
  • Do not login to your website (or make ANY changes) during your launch time frame
  • Active SiteLock (GoDaddy) – this must be turned off prior to site transfer

Expectations:

  • This process could take anywhere from 1hour to 3 days
  • Your current site may experience downtime
  • If you are not hosting with us (Managed Hosting), launch days will be between Mon-Weds
  • If you are hosting with us (Managed Hosting), launch days will be between Mon-Thurs
  • We do not recommend beginning a site launch on a Friday

Disclaimers:

Jolly Creative Agency is not responsible for “unknowns” that influence site downtime or speed of transfer, such as; hosting, configuration, restricted access to hosting/cPanel/SFTP/DNS resources, and more…

Jolly Creative Agency is not responsible for not being able to restore a backup that is stored on your host’s server. Hosting companies (such as GoDaddy) do not guarantee their own server backups.

Known Issues:

Some hosts commonly pose more roadblocks: GoDaddy is notorious for causing transfer issues, and GoDaddy support is not quick or consistent in quality.

Active SiteLock (GoDaddy) is known to block or interfere with a site transfer. This must be turned off prior to site transfer.

The hosting cache can cause you not to see the live site right away (we will make every effort to flush all caches.)

Browser cache can cause you not to see the live site right away (please clear your own personal browser cache.)
